  Optical coating is a broad classification of physical and chemical processes that have developed out of the need to enhance the performance of certain optical devices. Optical coating systems were first developed for the manufacture of optical devices such as lenses and mirrors. Later, other optical applications developed such as LED lights, solar panels, telephone enclosures, medical equipment, x-ray machines, mirrors, etc. Optical coatings have developed for different applications such as improving brightness, reducing heat build-up, extending the life of sensitive equipment, increasing image clarity, and eliminating or reducing distortion.    The development of these specialized systems has made possible many new applications in various fields.
