Ranitidine is manufactured in different batches. The composition of these batches may differ slightly from one another, especially when different ingredients are added to it. There was a recall announced for the batch of Ranitidine containing the ingredient arbutin, which is supposed to be good for the cardiovascular system.

Normally Ranitidine is not habit-forming, but due to its effects on the neurotransmitters responsible for the appetite, it is possible for the patient to become addicted to this medicine. Once addicted to ranitidine, the person develops a tolerance to the drug.

Ranitidine may also be useful for the treatment of gastric ulcers. In addition to the gastric antigens, ranitidine has other potential applications like treating ulcerative colitis, Helicobacter pylori infection, hepatitis, hyperlipoproteinaemia, Renal failure, acute hepatitis, and gallstone problems. Ranitidine is a commonly prescribed pre-operative and post-operative medication in the treatment of gastric ulcers. It can be taken up to 6 months before the surgery.
