In-vitro Fertilization Devices Are Designed for Fertility Clinics and Reproductive Labs

 

 


In-vitro fertilization is the most effective form of assisted reproductive technology associated with treatment of infertility and genetic disorders related to child conception. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC's) 2018 Fertility Clinic Success Rates Report, around 306,197 ART cycles were performed at 456 reporting clinics in the United States in 2018, resulting in 73,831 live births (deliveries of one or more living infants) and 81,478 live born infants. In-vitro fertilization devices are designed for fertility clinics and reproductive laboratories.

Assisted reproductive technology includes medical procedures used to address infertility. In-vitro fertilization is a procedure of fertilization in which an egg is combined with viable sperm outside the body, in-vitro. The procedure involves stimulating and monitoring an ovary's mature egg function, removing an existing ovum from a woman's uterus and allowing sperm to fertilize them in a petri dish in a lab. After fertilization, the embryo is then transferred into the mother's womb. Most fertility clinics nowadays offer this treatment due to the fact that many couples are now turning to in-vitro techniques for successful conception.

Other couples who previously used in-vitro methods are now changing their procedures to include in-vitro fertilization due to the fact that it has been shown to increase the chances of having a successful pregnancy. Some of the reasons for the success of in-vitro fertilization include tracking and determining the exact time of ovulation; monitoring the amount of progesterone produced by the ovary; timing the intercourse to coincide with ovulation; and ensuring that the embryo does not come into contact with the uterine wall.

With this method of conception, the in-vitro fertilization process takes place purely in the lab. There is no surgery required. Once complete, the embryos are then carefully returned to the laboratory and placed in the appropriate environment. The eggs are then fertilized immediately following the fertilization.
