Demand for Intravascular Ultrasound Imaging System Has Increased Due to Increasing Prevalence of Chronic Diseases
Intravascular ultrasound imaging system is a minimally invasive medical imaging technique with a specialized handheld catheter having a small, laser-illuminating micro-cavity probe attached on the distal end to the end of an extensible catheter (tubing). The distal end of this catheter is attached to an ultrasound machine. Intravascular ultrasound imaging system uses ultrasound energy to produce changes in blood pressure or heart rate in the affected area. This treatment can also be used to visualize the anatomy of a stroke or brain tumor.
Individuals undergoing minimally invasive procedures such as coronary artery angioplasty or brachioplasty often use intravascular ultrasound to relieve pain and discomfort following surgery. Intravascular ultrasound imaging system can be very effective for treating many common problems associated with blockages in the heart or vessels. Such problems as left ventricular hypertrophy, increased blood flow rate, and decreased blood pressure can be detected through intravascular ultrasound.
Intravascular echocardiography is another minimally invasive procedure that can be performed during a cardiac catheterization procedure. During this procedure, an ultrasound probe is inserted into the patients' body and this probe uses Doppler technology to generate ultrasound waves that are reflected back to the machine. Intravascular echocardiography has been found to be very successful in detecting the root cause of various cardiovascular conditions such as myocardial infarction, heart attack, or arrhythmia.
Intravascular ultrasound imaging system can also be used in the treatment of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is caused by the buildup of plaque within the walls of arteries. The plaque buildup interferes with the smooth flow of blood through the arteries. This condition can result in a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure, and it is the ability of an intravascular ultrasound probe to provide focused ultrasound energy in the arteries to break up and remove the plaque that has formed which has led to its recognition as a useful cardiovascular treatment.
Thus, with the increasing prevalence of chronic diseases, the demand for effective diagnostic cardiovascular imaging techniques is also increasing. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chronic diseases, such as heart disease, are the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.
